About the Destination
Why Charter Russia?
Russia offers some of the world's most extraordinary and least-explored charter waters. The Neva River through St. Petersburg's imperial heart, the Finnish lakeland of Ladoga and Onega, the remote White Sea islands, and the dramatic Kamchatka Peninsula provide experiences unlike anywhere else.
St. Petersburg
Cruising into St. Petersburg from the Gulf of Finland, past the golden spires of the Peter and Paul Fortress and the Winter Palace of the Hermitage, is one of the world's great maritime arrivals. The White Nights of June and July — when the sun barely sets — add an extraordinary, ethereal quality.
The Solovetsky Islands
The remote Solovetsky Archipelago in the White Sea carries one of Russia's most complex histories — a medieval Orthodox monastery founded in 1436, Stalin's first Gulag camp, and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site of extraordinary spiritual and historical power.
Kamchatka Peninsula
For the most adventurous charterers, the Kamchatka Peninsula offers active volcanoes, pristine wilderness, brown bear fishing, and some of the most remote waters on earth.
Weather & Climate
Russia's waterways are only suitable for charter from June to August — the brief but spectacular White Nights summer. St. Petersburg and the Finnish lakes offer the most reliable conditions. The White Sea requires careful planning with ice conditions even in summer. Kamchatka is best July–September. The Arctic extension to Murmansk and the Barents Sea requires an expedition-class vessel.
