About the Destination
Why Charter the East Coast United States?
America's Eastern Seaboard offers extraordinary variety from the tropical warmth of Miami and the Florida Keys to the dramatic New England coast with its lobster harbours, Gilded Age mansions, and spectacular fall foliage viewed from the water.
Newport, Rhode Island
Newport is America's sailing capital. The Gilded Age mansions of Bellevue Avenue, the legendary Newport Yacht Club, and the dramatic Cliff Walk combine to create one of the East Coast's most compelling ports. The waters off Newport provide excellent sailing with reliable sea breezes.
Martha's Vineyard & Nantucket
These two Massachusetts islands represent quintessential New England at its finest. Martha's Vineyard's colourful gingerbread cottages of Oak Bluffs and the rolling moors of Chappaquiddick. Nantucket's cobblestoned Main Street, whaling museum, and extraordinary seafood restaurants make it one of America's most charming destinations.
Maine Coast
Maine's rocky coastline, lobster pound culture, and pristine harbour towns like Camden, Rockport, and Castine offer a classic American sailing experience. The fall foliage in September and October, viewed from the water with the white church spires of New England villages above, is simply extraordinary.
The Florida Keys
At the opposite end, the Florida Keys offer tropical island-hopping in turquoise water. Key West's legendary sunset celebrations, the diving of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, and the backcountry fishing flats of the Everglades provide a completely different experience.
Weather & Climate
The East Coast has a varied sailing season depending on latitude. New England is best June to October — warm summers, excellent visibility, and the spectacular fall foliage in September/October. Miami and the Florida Keys are ideal October to May; summer is hot, humid, and hurricane season. The mid-Atlantic states offer good year-round sailing but summer can be hot.
